KAILUA-KONA (AP) — The Coast Guard says it has suspended its search for a missing spear fisherman off the Big Island.

Lt. Kevin Cooper says Saturday that an aerial and shoreline search for 41-year-old Jeremiah Nathan began Thursday night.

He was last seen walking on Honaunau Beach with diving gear Wednesday, and was reported missing after he didn’t arrive on a flight to California to attend his brother’s wedding. Copper said a friend went to the beach and found Nathan’s truck, with his belongings still inside.

A battalion chief said Hawaii County Fire Department crews may continue searching for Nathan.
